The essay “Dream Children” is a narrative essay in which the author, Charles Lamb narrates the story of his dream that he had. The Adventures of Ulysses, 1808. The essay reaches its climax when the readers become aware of the reality that the children listening to Lamb’s stories are nothing but a figment of his imagination and a dream of a sleeping man. The fable he constructs speaks to how odd it is that humans eat cooked animals at all.

He also feels depressed on the loss of his unrequited love Alice and regrets not marrying her. Once again, Lamb construes literary devices and narrative forms in such a way that he manages to sneak some fiction into his essay work. Meanwhile he began contributing literary articles to an assortment of newspapers and periodicals. While we have little reason to believe many of the facts are fabricated in these essays (aside from the facts Lamb tells us are fabricated), Lamb choosing a pseudonym for himself meant that he could assign pseudonyms to others in his life, and shift their relationship to himself ever so slightly to better fit an essay's purpose.

He found these burnt pigs delicious and could not stop eating them. Seemingly, the Elia character gave Lamb permission to fictionalize his life just enough for him to feel comfortable writing about it.
