You can't really call the Drifter anything. During the Dark Age the Drifter was revived by a Ghost, who ushered him towards the Last City. This doesn't match up with some of the Drifter's lines I mentioned. I don't think it could even be Toland at all. First off, his features. Was Shin born a hunter or did his experience with Jaren influence this? If a Titan wanted to learn Golden Gun or if a Warlock wanted to learn Fist of Havoc, they could. If it is, it's a Toland who feels more freedom to be less creepy. Just so you know, not everyone is a Guardian, Guardians are just a classification of Lightbearer/Risen dedicated to protecting the Last City, Drifter is even classified as a Rogue Lightbearer (meaning he doesn't side with the ideals of the Guardians). That being said I do think the drifter fought on our side at some point he makes comments about the dark age which if he wasn’t near immortal like guardians he shouldn’t even be alive if he was around then. We saw it in D1 and I'm pretty sure you can see it on the loading screen when going into Gambit. Changing Toland's VA wouldn't be a impossibility. If a guardian was to have a child would that child have the light as well and be of the same class as the parent? Run while you still have legs to carry you! He also states when you fly in, “There’s nothing that can kill a Guardian as fast as another Guardian”, therefore he’s seen Guardians against enemies of the Darkness as well as Guardians in the Crucible. Anyway, I know everyone's excited for Forsaken and at the prospect of having new lore to digest, but I think the Drifter is just what the name suggests.
