the illusionist vs the prestige

I must have missed that one, but the name says it’s probably one of those excruciating excuses for fire and brimstone and a lot of death, gore, and violence. Of course, a great cast and crew helps, and special mention must go to cinematographer Dick Pope who was nominated for an Academy Award, deservedly so, and to the production design by Ondrej Nekvasil who brings to life the Vienna of Sigmund Freud. His are a little too hard core SF for my taste but we love watching the movie versions together. LOVE Scarlett Johansson. While The Illusionist probes the secrets of life and death, space and time, fate and chance, and what it means to be mortal, along with the human fascination for proof of life after death, The Prestige focuses on the practical science behind the “magic”, but searches and longs for something more illusive. ( Log Out /  Angier chooses not to see this as a simple accident, leading the two to become increasingly obsessive thorns in each other’s side until, in one of the opening scenes thanks to the never-ending joys (read: ended some considerable time ago) of fractured narrative, we find that Borden has been sentenced to hang by the neck until he be dead for the murder of one Robert Angier.

There have been a few movies that just get better with time because you see something more each time. The plot you mentioned about Primal Fear doesn’t sound like the one I thought it was. I’m a great super hero fan, but that one was hideous. Bob Nowotny

The reason I find them to be the best is that when we rewatch the movie again, after knowing the twist, we curse ourselves for not seeing the misleading events in the film the first time. I loved how it pulled everything together in the end (i felt like i got like slapped in the face i was like wow) also i loved the kiss scene so good!

The production design is utterly fantastic, full of ornate Victorian theatres, grimy London streets, Heath Robinson contraptions (many involving arcing electricity, which is never less than awesome) and most importantly of all, fetching headware. (I actually stole that from Pat Sajak). Tremendous performance from the always delightful Paul Giamatti, but, in the end, the focus on a secondary character is unbecoming in comparison to The Prestige, which closely holds its main characters, if, as you say, “at arms length,” then at least within grasp. He is awesome in Flowers of War. They're also different; I'd call Illusionist a more fantastical, romantic movie in a way. . This level of authenticity tips the scale — the winner is The Illusionist in as close a decision as is possible outside the state of Minnesota. My opinion . I knew his name was familiar, but couldn’t place it. I might have found it maudlin if the acting wasn’t so believable. They're both very good movies. I could definitely have done without that.
