4988142078223 I found The non linnear plot lines to be unecessary - why have Hayden at the race track for a 5 minute sequence only for the narrator to somberly intone "earlier at 2.24 Johnny Clay visited (I forget where)" This style of editing features throughout the film. The actors also do a fantastic job in their roles. The acting and casting is mostly very good with Cook and Agoglia Carey stealing their scenes (Carey uses the "n" word and all credit, I think, to the distributors for not cutting out). Adapted from the novel "Clean Break" by renowned crime writer Lionel White, this nowadays little known film was the real debut of then 28-years old director Stanley Kubrick. I highly recommend this movie to people who are looking for a good crime movie, and for other criterion collectors I highly recommend this for your collection as this comes with some fantastic special features, including another early Kubrick film. The plot lacks credibility. While this is more about getting subtitles from videos than specific than entire movies or TV shows, if that movie or show happens to be on YouTube then this could be the best way to get subs for it. Stanley Kubrick`s 1956 Film Noir; it's a movie on the short-list of every discerning fan of the genre – it has all the classic elements – a carefully plotted heist, a duplicitous dame, a corrupt policeman and double-crossing. This was by no means a failure as a film. Moreover, the ending is terrific!
Far too much is explained in either dialogue or voiceover.
It's in my top five Kubrick films and the transfer here is really nice. Smart documentry style film, black and white atmospheric tight 90 mins. Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2019. So much so that I now consider one of my favorite movies. It is genuine film noir.
Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. The "killing" is not what you may think it is.
It is also very well plotted with all of the different story threads combining perfectly. What has changed in my appreciation of what is commonly regarded as (minor?) The movie picks up in the 3rd act, but I was NOT at all satisfied with how it ended... To me, it was a boring movie with a "what was the point?" 2.
