Cast as Barney's mum, Cemolina, she is possibly one of the most unlikable characters that you will find in any movie. I think he's a fantastic actor and one of Scotland's best. Carlyle achieves a consistent wry, shaggy dog tone that works on low-key terms. It's a quintessentially Scottish story that requires someone with a knowledge of the city (and it's inhabitants) to adapt it for the screen and, on that note, Carlyle is the perfect man for the job.

Unless your a follower of the TV show Once Upon a Time (which I'm not) then you'll probably have noticed the absence of actor Robert Carlyle from our film screens. Personally I thought there were many laugh out loud moments and some excellent dialogue. Brian Pettifer is fantastic as Barneys desperately sad friend, who gets free haircuts on his rather strange woolen hairpiece.
