He lost the woman he loved, and a women who loved him for what was inside, not the phony outward role he played. I wasn't bored or especially bothered by this movie, but I wasn't really entertained either. Phantasm is one of the weirdest horror franchises of all time, and sports one of the genre's best villains in the supernaturally powerful Tall Man. The ending got me stumped though, not sure how a man he was going to kill ended up pushing the hospital bed of the wife and being present at the wake but I liked the creation of the character played by Banderas who we might have thought to be a business executive but was in fact a nobody opportunist. The acting, as you would expect from such an ensemble, was excellent as was the photography. The film needed a rewrite. The Tall Man definitely isn't human, despite his outward facade giving that initial impression. Yeah. Great cast, good premise, poor writing/editing/sequencing. The film wasn't exactly what I expected. Please enter your email address and we will email you a new password. Lots of people I talked with about the movie were lost and confused. If so, why did she put it in the shoe that Antonio Banderas loved? Man, if you look a little too far into this project, you'll find that it was pretty much doomed to be a little dull, especially when you get to the director's name, because Sir Richard Charles Hastings Eyre is Brit-tastically dry enough to simply say. The outcome was real, not Hollywood. |, September 25, 2009 The movie is very confusing, but the few clues suggest the following. I don't know how far this film could have gone if its storytelling was more realized, as there are limitations to this drama's familiar subject matter, but through all of the natural shortcomings, there is an intrigue that stands as conceptually worthy, and is sometimes successfully brought to life by Richard Eyre's direction, which is flawed, but has highlights in atmospheric reinforcement that keeps dullness at bay more often than not, and has a tendency to establish genuine tension, maybe even a mild hint of resonance, particularly when it comes to a genuinely surprising and heavy, if somewhat forced dramatic twist. But I found out it was a miss for those negative reviewers who didn't get it. This isn't a simple film.
While that never succeeded in making him less frightening, it did make him a bit less of a blank slate. You know he will never find that again. | Rating: 2.5/5 The Other Man was a movie that had intrigued me for a while due to its story lines, and the two main actors, considering I love both Liam Neeson and Banderas, but I avoided due to the critical reviews I read about it. loss and loneliness, Screenwriter-Playwright Charles Wood, Known for ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade,’ ‘Iris,’ Dies, Here’s Everything Coming to and Leaving Hulu in January. That is what THE OTHER MAN does and it is a pleasure to be surprised in this way. Morningside ultimately created a machine capable of traveling through time and space, but upon stepping through it for the first time, he failed to come back, at least as he was. Soon enough, though, some very mistaken script decisions quickly take the film straight south. We want to hear what you have to say but need to verify your account. Despite the best efforts of a talented cast, The Other Man is talky, witless, and tension-free. I think there are 3 reasons some reviewers did not like this movie. If you liked films like Source Code, ARQ, Edge Of Tomorrow, and also movies like Stay and The Endless, you’d love this one. There is a similarity with TAKEN in that Neeson is a pursuer on the European continent, relentless and determined, although this time, he had the female head of security at his work to help him go on the trail of Banderas in Milan. Lisa married young and was probably bored. | Rating: C- Just confirm how you got your ticket.
However, I felt like the payoff wasn't there and while logical was just a bit more boring then I wanted. A good character study lost in the haze of bad thriller gimmickry.
The film starts out promisingly enough, with Harris Zambarloukos's cinematography creating an eerie, forbidding sense of atmospherics by emphasizing the cool metallic interiors of the characters' London world. Don't think the story jumps too much or too fast, just enough for us to work things out. And why was the lover at the dinner honoring the wife? The movie just doesn't add up. Most of the scenes seemed glued together. I disliked/disbelieved many of the characters actions. But in the end, the husband sees the lover for the deeply sincere, but flawed man he is. Liam Neeson is better than this and so are you. Lisa: Peter gets close to Ralph that tells his relationship with Lisa without knowing that he is her husband. Score composer Stephen Warbeck works sporadically, but whenever he gets work, he makes it count, and while his efforts for this film are kind of unevenly used, due to the dryly quiet moments, they're well worth waiting for, being a touch formulaic, but nevertheless with a tender intensity whose minimalist strike is not simply beautiful in a very atmospheric way, but complimentary to the heart of this tasteful dramatic thriller, whose musical artistry is perhaps topped in its value by visual artistry.
I was at least fearing that the film would be really generic, and it's not that, but neither is it anything new that you've seen, ultimately being a been-there-done-that affair regarding an affair whose familiarity almost blands things up, as surely as atmosphere problems decidedly bland things up. I can't believe they were able to get 3 wonderful actors to make one of the worse movies I've ever seen. Liam Neeson is really tall.
